Joomla 3 Magic Quotes Off Issue

Joomla Michigan was created using Joomla 3.03. While trying to migrate off of my development environment to production, I encountered something I'd not forseen happening.

Apparently, Joomla 3+ requires Magic Quotes (it's a server setting) to be turned off before installing. If they're on, you have to turn them off to get to the next install step.

Here's how to turn Magic Quotes Off for Joomla 3 and later

First, open up notepad or similar editor (I was using Sublime 2). create a document with the two lines below and save as php.ini.

magic_quotes_gpc = Off
session.save_path = "/tmp"

 Now you will want to FTP it to your webserver in the public_html/installation folder, or whereever your installation folder resides.

Retry your installation and you'll be able to fully install that awesome Joomla 3+

    Hi
    Unfortunately that does not solve the problem always, like yahoo web services does not override the Magic Quotes. I tried php.ini in installation folder, under root, both php.htaccess under root directory, nothing helped to override this setting, its kind of crazy o bother yourself with such a small thing, i think both Joomla/ Yahopo are annoyying after all...

  • Talking about a Modern Joomla

    Feature Stories Oct 15, 2018 | 06:05 am

    There is an elephant in the room, the modernization of Joomla. The mobile world is transforming the web technology. There is an accumulated sum of innovations waiting to be interpreted. It has taken years to reach the present tipping point, but it is finally arriving as new features included in the evergreen browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera). Beyond the fine detail, the general web landscape is changing, and that is what we need to address to modernize Joomla.
